Deep within the body lies its core system the craniosacral system (CSS). A system of membranes that contains the cerebrospinal fluid and encloses the central nervous system; the brain and spinal cord. This system has an inherent motion called the craniosacral rhythm (CSR). This rhythm is translated to all the tissues in the body making it palpable and distinctive. This system is our deepest layer of fascia which can then be affected by tensions within the entire system of fascia or connective tissue which weaves through all tissues and surrounds all body structures. This inherent rhythm can be used to discern those restrictions and treat the body by removing their impingement to the CSS thus enhancing function to all bodily systems.
Our hands are our greatest tools to feel, know and treat. Trusting them is even greater. The real case history comes from the body itself if we learn to listen by blending with it through the CSR.
This is the first of a series of CST classes. In this Integration of CST Level 1, blending and palpation of the craniosacral rhythm will be the main focus as this is the essence of CST. Understanding the anatomy and the influence of the CSS and how it affects the body and health will be examined throughout this course, while learning different techniques using the CSS for tissue release.
Trusting what we feel brings confidence to whatever type of bodywork we do. Utilizing this skill gives a significant advantage as this allows one to be guided by the body instead of the therapist dictating to the body what they think it needs.
